چکیده

This work addresses a fundamental drawback of conventional bio-signal acquisition interfaces by incorporating a reconfigurable analog front-end (AFE) that can be configured to always operate in an optimal power mode through digital assistance. Implemented in 65 nm CMOS, the AFE has tunable noise performance exhibiting an input-referred noise ranging from 1.90-2.91 while consuming 307-769 nW power from a 0.8 V supply. The low activity and quasi-periodicity of bio-signals are exploited using an LMS-based adaptive linear predictive filter for power reduction. An agile, on-the-fly dynamic noise-power reconfiguration strategy is used to achieve data-dependent power savings of 2.5× without compromising the system’s anomaly detection capability or ability to extract pristine ECG features.

Concept Design for a 1-Lead Wearable/Implantable ECG Front-End: Power Management

Power supply quality and stability are critical for wearable and implantable biomedical applications. For this reason we have designed a reconfigurable switched-capacitor DC-DC converter that, aside from having an extremely small footprint (with an active on-chip area of only 0.04 mm²), uses a novel output voltage control method based upon a combination of adaptive gain and discrete frequency s...

A New Analog-based LO Harmonic Rejection Technique with Tunable Notch Frequency

An effective technique for mixer LO harmonic rejection in a SAW-less wideband receiver front-end is proposed. The proposed technique provides a tunable notch that can be placed at any frequency like mixer LO harmonics, to avoid the aliasing in baseband after mixing. An analog LC notch is used in a cascode transconductor, and it can reject one of the 3rd or 5th harmonics. T...

An Autonomous Wireless Sensor Node With Asynchronous ECG Monitoring in 0.18 µm CMOS

The design of a 13.56 MHz/402 MHz autonomous wireless sensor node with asynchronous ECG monitoring for near field communication is presented. The sensor node consists of an RF energy harvester (RFEH), a power management unit, an ECG readout, a data encoder and an RF backscattering transmitter. The energy harvester supplies the system with 1.25 V and offers a power conversion efficiency of 19% f...

A 0.5 μA/Channel front-end for implantable and external ambulatory ECG recorders

There is an increasing demand for low power, low voltage, and small size analog readout bio-potential systems. This paper presents an analog front-end for measuring the intra-cardiac signals in implantable and also external ambulatory ECG cardiac recording applications. The analog front-end benefits from voltage to frequency conversion without conventional analog to digital conversion and there...
